Just a few years ago, facial recognition seemed like a distant dream, confined to the realms of science fiction movies. Today, however, this technology is not only a reality but also readily accessible to the public: Facecheck.id and Pimeyes.com. Both are unique and powerful.
What is Facial Recognition?
Before we dive into a comparison, it’s important to know what facial recognition is and how it differs from standard image reversing.
Facial recognition is a step beyond regular image searching. It doesn’t just match pictures; it analyzes features. This tech maps faces in photos, then looks for matches in databases. It’s like having a digital detective that can pick a face out of a crowd.
Facial recognition goes beyond basic image reverse searching. While reverse searching uses an image to find similar ones online, facial recognition zeroes in on unique facial features. It’s not about finding identical pictures but identifying the same faces across different images. This technology can spot a person in varied contexts, a capability far beyond matching visuals by resemblance.
Pimeyes Pricing
Pimeyes has 3 pricing plans –
- Open Plus – $29.99 / mo
- PROtect – $79.99 / mo
- Advanced – $299.99 / mo
For my needs, the Open Plus plan is just fine. Businesses or content creators that may have a lot of people ripping off their pictures, would probably find the other 2 plans beneficial. My needs are just for searching, though.
Payment is nice and easy with a credit card and you get 25 searches a day for a month.
Facecheck Pricing
Facecheck‘s pricing is definitely more complex. For the reasons I’ll show you, Pimeyes definitely takes the win on ease of payment.
There are 4 tiers available –
- Rookie Sleuth – $19 for 50 searches. Credits expire in 14 days.
- Private Eye – $47 for 133 searches. Credits expire in 60 days.
- Deep Investigator – $197 for 666 searches. Credits expire in 180 days.
- The Professional – $597 for 3,333 searches. Credits expire in 365 days.
That’s pretty pricey and would definitely prompt me to pay the $47 for the private eye plan. Also, you have to pay in cryptocurrency, like Bitcoin. This may be more difficult for some users. If you have Cashapp or Venmo or Paypal, it won’t be too hard.
My other issue is how quickly the credits expire with the first plan. And finally, why make it confusing saying each search is 3 credits? It seems like it would be easier just saying how many searches you get. I feel like some companies make things needlessly complex.
Search Comparisons
I’m going to run through a few different searches to see the results with each one. I’ll choose people at least somewhat in the public eye already.
Mike Crawford – The Young Jurks
Mike Crawford is a well known personality in Massachusetts. This image was taken from an IG video of him.
Facecheck
There are numerous matches, including:
Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=9591333900936981&set=pcb.9591340307603007
Linkedin – https://www.linkedin.com/in/mike-crawford-568a9a29/
Dailymotion – https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x22vk33 (10 years ago)
Pimeyes
There’s definitely a whole lot less results with Pimeyes. The results do however appear to be on point and unique to Facecheck.
Other – https://www.talkingseaweed.com/events (Boston Cannabis 2019)
The others were just Cannabis websites. No social media found.
Karen Read
Karen Read is a current defendant in a murder trial. Her face has been highly publicized. Let’s see if we can’t find any unknown images.
Facecheck
As I assumed, a lot of the results are related to her as a defendant, however there are some social media hits.
Linkedin – https://www.linkedin.com/in/karen-read-87a2074/
Everything else appeared to be news articles.
Pimeyes
There were a lot more different news sites listed, but no social media found.
Grant Smith Ellis
Grant is a well known personality in Massachusetts and Cannabis advocate.
Facecheck
The Turtleboy picture matches in the first picture, and based on future results (Pimeyes) the the second picture is probably accurate too.
IG – https://www.instagram.com/p/CbaVOMRg2Cq/
I’m not sure about the 3rd image.
Pimeyes
We have a lot more results with Pimeyes, but still not that many. Some of the results include the following:
News – https://www.bostonherald.com/2024/02/23/aidan-turtleboy-kearney-indicted-on-new-charges/
News – https://digboston.com/no-smoking-no-thank-you-advocates-decry-cannabis-social-consumption-rules-in-mass/
Substack – https://midnightmass.substack.com/p/busts-harm-homebound-patients
Conclusion
I think we can conclude that both Pimeyes and Facecheck are powerful facial recognition tools. There are however distinct differences. Facecheck seems to do better with social media, while Pimeyes appears to find everything else.
Depending on your needs, both tools may be the right choice for you. For my needs, I’d probably lean towards Facecheck with the $47 plan. If you have an alternative though, I’d love to review it. Comment below.
